Ryanair, Europe’s largest low fares airline, today announced four new routes from its Frankfurt Hahn base to Balaton in Hungary, Biarritz and Nantes in France and Valencia in Spain. The new route from Balaton to Frankfurt will operate 3 times weekly (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday) from the 31st October and bring the total number of destinations served by Ryanair from Balaton to 2, while from Frankfurt Hahn to 41. Today’s new services will increase the annual passenger numbers at Balaton airport by further 40 thousand to 80 thousand passengers in 2007.

From October 2006 Ryanair will base 2 additional Boeing 737-800 in Frankfurt Hahn as part of the $1 billion multi year expansion bringing the total number of based aircraft at Hahn to 9.

New Terminal

On 22nd March a memorial plaque was inaugurated in the presence of the Irish minister, Brendan Smith and the Irish ambassador, Brendan McMahon, in the new terminal that is being built within the framework of the Irish-Hungarian cooperation.

According to Ágoston Gubicza, the Managing Director of FlyBalaton CCA, the airport had 25,000 passengers in 2005 and this year about 70,000 guests are expected. The construction of the modern terminal is reasonable since airport traffic of 100,000 passengers should be achieved by 2007. There are regular and charter flights from Switzerland, Russia and Germany; moreover, the Turkish Riviera and Kopenhagen are also accessible, and from May, London will also be available.

Playing Golf – by plane

A mere 10 kilometres from FlyBalaton airport the Zala Springs Resort is being built with an estimated cost of 75 million euros, also as a part of the Irish-Hungarian cooperation. The investment involves 170 hectares, in the first phase of which a 120-hectare golf course will be built. The first tee position marker was placed by the Irish ambassador, Brendan McMahon. The Irish investors, Marty Carr and Geoffrey Lewis have long-term plans: they are planning an international tournament here in 2009.

The golf course will be built according to the plans of the world famous Californian architect, Robert Trent Jones Jr and the golf course construction will be project managed by the Irish Turfgrass Consultancy. In the resort there will be numerous shops, restaurants, a spa and a wellness centre among others. From the 200 apartments over 50 were already sold during the first public sales launch in Dublin, and the sale is going on in the markets of Budapest, Vienna and London.
